I really liked this documentary! I was automatically drwan in. The film starts out with Philippe Petit who did the unthinkable-- a wire act between the twin towers. I loved watching Petit because of his fun, wild, and refreshing personality. Though he is reckless, his story is fascinating. I enjoyed the interviews with his friends and "team" who helped him achieve his act. Each come from different backgrounds are very interesting to watch. It was really cool to see the old footage of Petit working on his acts and it really shows just how much drive and determination he has. It really felt like I was watching a suspense movie. The director James Marsh creates such uncertainty with the scenes that it feels like a real suspense movie! The scenes were genuine and inspiring and really capture Petit's passion. I found this interview in which he speaks and it is relatively new. It's about his philosophy on life and it's really inspiring to watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yqk4-00RRMs

Marsh really does turn this documentary into a suspense film. I loved the way he laid out and timed the scenes, bobbling back and forth between the team plotting their way into the Twin Towers and Philippe's background as a wire-walker. At one point I was nervous he wouldn't survive the task, until I remembered his older self had been interviewed throughout the movie. The video you've provided is a terrific display of Petit's passion. Seeing someone so excited about a skill is really refreshing.
ReplyDeleteI also thoroughly enjoyed this film and felt as though I was on the edge of my seat (pun intended!) in many of the scenes. The words that you used to describe Petit: "reckless" and "fascinating" were so very accurate. It sums up the whole movie in just two words in a way that I did not think about before. Thank you for that enlightenment :)
ReplyDeleteThe documentary truly does appear as an action film with the shaded interviews and suspense of breaking in to the Twin Towers. Director James Marsh does a wonderful job of drawing in the viewer. I was quite inspired by Philippe's work especially when he was asked why he did it and all he said was "There is no reason." The interview you included really captures Philippe's care free way of life and passion behind his work. As Alli said above, seeing someone so passionate about their craft is truly inspiring.
